There are several reasons for this such as a power issue with the opener, or the door being jammed in the track but the most common issue is a misalignment of the safety sensors. Safety sensors are required by Florida law to be mounted 6” – 8” from the floor and mounted near or on the garage door track. These sensors must look at each other in order for the door to travel in the close position. If they are not aligned and facing each other this will cause the door to not close when tapping the button on the wall or any remote.
If after inspection you find the safety sensors aligned correctly and it still won’t close, there may be an issue with the wiring and we recommend to contact our company for a free diagnostic.
Why is my door not opening?
A door not opening is a sign of several issues with a garage door. These issues can be a problem with the power to the opener, or an engaged lock on the garage door itself. But most commonly a door that will not lift could be a broken spring which results in a very heavy door. Most openers are not designed to lift this extreme weight as most of the lift torque for a garage door comes from the springs generally located above the door in the center attached to the wall. This can be identified by looking for a visible 2”-3” gap in one of the springs where it broke.
If after inspection you find one or both of the springs to be broken, please contact our company for immediate service.
Is my garage door a hurricane door?
If you door was installed or replaced after August of 2007, and inspected by a State or Local government agency, then your door should meet current Hurricane Wind Load standards required by the State of Florida. These standards include Hurricane struts (horizontal metal struts that run the length of your door), proper mounting and secured Sleeve Anchors that hold the door tracks to the framing of the garage door walls.

What maintenance is required for my Garage Door?
Because your door is mostly made of Steel Metal, it is very difficult to observe a part that will soon break. So we recommend regular maintenance that includes the following: Balance of Springs (restore proper tension), lubrication on all moving parts and a visual inspection of any failed/failing parts such as hinges, rollers, cables and miscellaneous hardware.
